The Basics of Social Media Planning:
A Mini Series

This series of 30-minute webinars will answer the very basics of getting on top of your social media strategy.

There’s one thing I’ve heard from entrepreneurs, artists, and small business owners, one primary thing I hear them groan about, sometimes even more than staffing issues:

Their social media presence. Managing it. Building it. Finding time for it.

They find it daunting. Overwhelming. Confusing.

A giant time suck.

I decided to help people get a head start on a social media plan for 2024 while they have some time to work on it as 2023 closes out. In these six brief nuts-and-bolts webinars, I’ll break down “the 5 W’s” of knowing how to plan and implement your social media strategy for the new year.

Session 1: WHO

November 12 | 5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

Who is your audience? Who is buying from you?

If you say everyone, I hate to break it to you, but there’s your problem.

You can’t be all things to all people. You have to really know your ideal customer – what they need, what they value, what matters most to them. The better you know that customer, the more easily you can slip into your social media with an effective message.

We are putting your customer first, because without them, you’re not in business for long. We’ll look at:

  • Four basic personality types: their behaviors, their language, and their decision-making tendencies

  • Real-life examples of how one campaign can capture all of them, without a lot of effort

  • If time permits, we’ll touch on the 5 main Human Design archetypes too

Session 2: WHAT

November 19 | 5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

It’s all about the content, and how to use it.

We’re going to dive into content in this call, answering the question that is often asked of business owners challenged by social media:

What the hell am I going to post?

This does not have to be a challenge, but I understand what happens when you’re staring at the screen, and nothing comes to you. So in this session we’ll discuss:

  • The Pareto Principle as it applies to social media content

  • The Four Content Pillars of Social Media

  • Types of content: photo image, video (long and short-form), reels, stories, UGC, & more

  • Your human design: when to speak, how to speak, and knowing when to zip it

Session 3: WHEN

November 26 | 5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

You have a business to run and a life to live. So when do you post?

When to post is always an interesting discussion. Time, days of the week… even the frequency of your posting is important to determine.

This is where setting some KPI’s (key performance indicators) and understanding analytics can help. In this session, we will review:

  • Which platforms have “optimal” days and times, when that is, is there a point where how much is too much

  • KPI’s for reach, engagement, customer loyalty, and conversions

  • Response and engagement – timeliness and notifications

  • “Reading the room” when it comes to world events

Session 4: WHERE

December 3 | 5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

You have a business to run and a life to live. So when do you post?

Social media has really only been around for 15 years or so, yet it’s having a major influence on our society, our leisure time, our values, our politics, our purchasing habits, and our relationships. It’s also had a major impact on how small businesses and entrepreneurs can reach their customers and interact with them.

There’s an old marketing rule that is still sound in the digital world: Fish where the fish are. There’s no point casting a line hoping to land a trophy only to spend your time detangling from weeds.

Discussion in this session will cover:

  • Understanding that there are TEN different kinds of platforms to consider when we say “social media”!

  • Knowing where the best fishing spots are and what flies to tie on your line

  • Flash-in-the-pan or rising stars? What are some of the emerging networks

  • Censorship, mistrust, and the birth of “alternate” platforms – should you jump ship?

Session 5: WHY

December 10 | 5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

Why are you on social? Do you even want to be there?

It’s a numbers game – with billions of people being on social media and businesses filling the streams with content, your business, like it or not, needs a presence too. How else can you readily reach a world-wide audience? Even if you think you’ll never ship a package to the other side of the world, you never know…

So as long as we have power in the outlet and the cell towers are transmitting, we should use it to the best of our ability and glean all the connections we can. In this session we’ll cover

  • Google Business – if you don’t have your business listed on Google, claim it

  • Leverage the networking side of social media to build more relationships

  • Other marketing channels you could use to supplement your plans, online and offline

  • What would you do if the grid goes down?

Session 6: HOW

December 17 | 5 pm Pacific, 8 pm Eastern

Let’s get this party started!

Now that we’ve covered the who, what, when, where, and why ‘behind the scenes’ of social media, we get to put the key in the ignition and start the engine. We’ll get planning out some of your first posts for 2024 with the tools and resources that will make your life simpler. You can start the new year with a sense of calm rather than the scattered spin of overwhelm when you face your social profiles.

Here’s what we cover in this final session:

  • Using physical and digital calendars and spreadsheets

  • Planning ahead so you’re prepared in advance

  • Regulating your time, and avoiding getting sucked into the mental vacuum

Even if you don’t think you can make it to the live webinars, when you register you will receive the recordings by email so you can catch up on what was covered, giving you an opportunity to listen and make notes when it works best for you.

PLUS, you’ll get my Social Media Planning Calendar and Tip Sheet as part of the program materials, so you have what you need to get your new year planning well in hand
before the end of December!
